Head Shave (Mundan):Head shaving In Good times n in bad times!!
2013-01-04
Name: Chandni In India we have weird customs. When a baby is born and mundan is done its a happy occasion and when even today in villages some lady becomes a widow she is asked to shave her head? Why the same procedure for both good times and bad times? Irony of Indian customs!

Today' s new generation just doesnt understand the significance of our Indian traditions and customs. Mundan is no doubt done on the various good and bad occasions but each time it has a different connotation. Mundan on child' s birth is related to purity of the child whereas on the sad times to purity of the future after the bad times has already occured. It signifies purity which is essential in all the ocassions whether good or bad.

Quite thoughtful of you to say that Chandni! Even if somebody' s parents or grandparents the son is asked to shave his head. Both gud and bad times have this mundan as a common ceremony. Completely agreed what an irony in our Indian traditions!

Hi Latha, go for it even i have done and its gives you 100% cure from dandruff. Your parents are right. If you want to get rid of this problem on permanent basis go for it and see the change.... - Piu [View Message]
RE:hi friends
Shaving your head will only be a temporary relief from the problem. Other ways will take time but they at least will last long. There is no permanent relief to the problem but you can at least try to get relief from it.... - Neev [View Message]
RE:hi friends
Shaving your head won't help you get rid of dandruff. Dandruff is kind of an skin infection and once you hair will grow even a lil the dandruff will be back and you can not be bald for life of course. See a doctor instead.... - NN [View Message]
RE:hi friends
Shaving your head will not be a permanent solution to your dandruff problem as when your hair grow back the problem will mostly come back to. Instead go your medications and get a hold on it and then get rid of it.... - NN [View Message]

RE:Mundan ceremonies Boys vs Girls!
Yes even today some people keep boys over girls but it will only change if one takes an initiative like if you think celebrating functions for a girl is as important as it is for a boy then make a difference. Celebrate her too.... - Kanchi [View Message]
RE:Head Shaving Issues n Concerns
Mundan is a tradition that has been taking place in india since the time man remembers and i don't think there is anything that should worry you. The people that do it are well versed in their job and are careful enough.... - Monica [View Message]
