TT vaccination prevents tetanus. A complete course that provides full protection condists of 5 doses. this creates antibodies in the body against the bacteria and thsu provide protection. For babies, it is given as a combination vaccine. The first course consists of three doses of the vaccine. The doses are given one month apart. All children should be given this vaccine except for those who do have some allergy. Some side effects may be experienced with this vaccine but it is nothing to worry.

Tetanus is a life-threatening disease It is caused by the toxin of a bacterium called Clostridium tetani. The bacteria enters the body through an open wound. It could through a tiny prick or scratch on the skin, but Tetanus infection is more common when there is a deep wound such as a bite, cut, burn or an ulcer. Tetanus affects a person’s nervous system and can be fatal if left untreated. It is preventable through immunisation. Tetanus is given to pregnant women to prevent tetanus to her and her baby. Antibodies formed in the body of the mother are passed on to the baby and thusd provides protection. Sometimes a booster dose is enough yto provide complete protection during pregnancy.

TT vaccine prevents tetanus infection. It helps the body to create antibodies against the tetanus toxin (tetanospasmin). When exposed to Clostridium tetani bacterium, it protects from the illness in the future. Specific doses are required for getting complete protection. If this course is interrupted, it should be resumed with an interval of one month between the remaining doses.TT vaccine protects only against tetanus and neonatal tetanus. When given to women of childbearing age, vaccines that contain tetanus toxoid (TT or Td) not only protect women against tetanus, but also prevent neonatal tetanus in their newborn infants. When TT or Td vaccine is given to a woman who is or who becomes pregnant, the antibodies that form in her body are passed to her fetus.
