Subject:  I grew up on Panchatantra and Jataka
I love the Panchatantra and Jataka tales. I love the animal stories in them. My father got these books as a birthday gift on my 5th birthday. I was too young. But I soon lapped up all the stories. I would love to read about talking animals and magical things, noble kings and cruel witches. it was fun. I have those books even today and they have certainly given me a lot of values. My mother would read fairy tales at time every day for me. On weekends she would read a long story from the Arabian nights. I really loved them. I always thought of myself when mom described the princess in the story of Aladdin and the magical lamp. I must have heard it a fifty times. I love it so much. I discovered Amar Chitra Katha during my school days and since then I have been a big fan. Stories transcend you to another world and then you have the power to keep entering that world at your will. All you have to do is open that book and read. This reminds me when harry potter enters into a book with magic into another world. But isn’t it actually so. Whenever we open a book we are sucked into a reality where we are mere spectators. Stories are great.

Same as zeba i too had grown reading stories from panchatantra. Each and every story in it is filled with great morale.Even now I remember each and every story and the moral behind it.And true to my words I follow the morals till now.I even want my kid to follow the stories and the great sayings now and ever.I strongly suggest these books for growing children and curious parents and I´ m sure the results will be wonderful.

Stories are fun. Especially children’s stories. I can read tenali raman, hardy boys, tinkle comics, chacha chaudhri, Malgudi days, asterix and obelix even today. My favourite book is Charlie and the chocolate factory by Roald Dahl. I love that book. It gives life to a child’s fantasy of being on chocolate land. I love the Tom Sawyer movie. I can never forget laurel and hardy. The pair is wonderful. These are some story books that I really cherish. It was my parents who had introduced me to them and some I discovered on my own. But I imagine if I did not discover these books I feel I would be missing on so much. These books are so special. They are not just entertainment. Reading is a pleasure and has the power to inspire and make a person think and grow mentally. So a parent introducing a child to books is giving the child the most precious gift. Stories and tales can be interesting and a lot of fun.

My children are crazy about hearing stories. We have story time everyday. Even if they are tired they do not want to go to bed without listening to a story. We have a nice collection of story books for children now. Sometimes we even read same stories again because the kids simply love it. With them I remember my childhood when my parents and grandparents told us stories. Even when I went to my native place there was an old aunt who would have some fantastic tales about the village forest and animals. We would be so eager for dinner time to get over and go to her to listen to stories. Every word she told I remember till today. I tell the same stories to my children sometimes and even they love it. That aunt is no more but we all have her stories with us and we love them. I think telling children stories is really important. It gives so much to them. They learn from it, they somehow feel bonded to the person who tells them a story since both share a common tale now. I think every parent must invest time in telling children stories.
