Hetal my son is 9 mnths old, he is a having a little lag in his milestones, Last week i went to the dr for his vacinnation and i informed him about this, as such he already on calcuim supplement, now he told me to start with (Ferrochelate-Folic acid Cyanocobalamin Lysine with irol oral solution). He told me to give him 10 drops each 2 times a day. The first day i started his tummy seemed bloated and he was looking drowsy after the second day dose, he started immedly vommitting whatever he had, i took him to the doctor, he told me to stop these iron drops for a week and adviced Domstal 2ml 3times a day half hr before intake, now yesterday night was ok, but 2day during lunch he vommitted part of his intake, i am worried is this because of the overdose...(as i found on the carton that infants less than a year should be given 5ml twice a day).Now is also not interested to eat anything,and seems tired... should I force food and can i give him milk now, will milk digest? Please Please advice.....What comes to your mind when u listen to this case? Pls suggest…. Joan replied. what is your son current developments ? why was he adviced calcium supplemnts ?most of the drs dont advice unless your baby is really lagging behind. does your baby have ne diary allergies ?
mostly drs recommends doses that are less than the prescribed dosage by the manufacturer. i am not able to understand as to why your baby was given such high doses that too just after following the vaccinations.mostly after vaccinations, for atleast 1 week, baby needs to settle down with the injected drugs,,and its then ne medicine only if required has to be given..
when it was mentioned 5ml twice a day,,unles the case is really severe,,dr will advice at the most 5ml twice a day or may be 5ml thrice in 20 hours,,now it depends that 10 drops of this medicine measures how much..you be the best judge,,there should be a dropper that must b having ml and tsp measurements with this medcine ?? check on that,how much is 10 drops acc to wat they have provided..and what has your dr recommended..
the second thing i see is why was it a need to prescribe calcium supplements,,and was it you or your dr who decides that he is lagging behind in his milestones ???? you mntioned that you informed your dr that he is lagging behind !! well, what are his developments.
Ferrochelate is often used as a cure for Anaemias...now your dr must have seen the signs of it, then only must have recommended,,otherwise its less likely that he might have prescribed this medicine..
domstal is given for babies with reflux acidity which often results to extreme vomits and frequent throwups and not otherwise.
now my question is was your baby having reflux or frequent vomits,,before he was given the ferrochelate ? if not, domstal will help temp thats not a prob but it is for the kids or adults with respective doses,,having relfux acidity which is often considered as a disease and not because of some medicine side effects.considering the age of baby, dr has asked you to give this medcine so that he recovers at speed rate.
if your baby is suffering from reflux acidity because of Ferrochelate, then i expect him to recover within 4 days with clear liquids and pedialyte, by that time i would expect his body to clear off all the side effects...however, if it continues take him to dr.
i also see it as one of mixed results of vaccination and immediate side effect of ferrochelate...but its only if he is gventhis medicine from the second day after vaccination...
since tthis medicine has caused this stomach upset in your baby stomach, his stomach needs to settle down, and give him a rest. check his weight on every 5-6 days,..he wnt be interested in foods cz of this reflux..it needs to settle down..give him enough water to drink, once a while one ice chip(not more, just 1 chip in every 2-3hours),,this will settle his reflux naturally.he is tired because of all this going on with him..vomits take alot of internal energy to throw up food with lots of force..its normal.
dont force him for ne milk for ne heavy foods..give him clear liquids, like clear soups,(he will not like it warm, give him a bit cool one/abit cooler than room temperature),,also avoid ne spices therein, having reflux spices will aggrevate the burning sensation,,,..also, avoid giving ne dairy products for another 12 hours,,give him clear liquids,pedialyte, or sugar-salt-water or ne electrolyte solution available in your country,,i would be happy if you ask your dr by call about it,,he will recommend you one,,keep your baby well hydrated....if he insist give him some mild taste crackers to munch,,if hungry give him overboiled rice with some salt and a lil dash of ghee(if in india or available in most indian store in US with name pure ghee,ask the store keeper for that,,, otherwise replace clarified butter-get unsalted butter,,boil upto an extent it forms a layer of brown colour on the top, remove it and boil until it gives aroma,thats clarified butter,stays upto 1month,pref storage in fridge),,also you can give him formula milk only after 8 hours of no vomits at all.its ok if your baby is not interested in having milk or ne foods for upto 10-12 hours,,,keep your baby near you, give him all warmth he needs,,rub his back with light but firm touch from up and then down,,and likewise move your fingers with light feather touch in the same direction,,he will like it...
for ne signs of other urgencies or ne lack of response from your baby,,call your dr or rush him to dr..
