2013-01-04
Name: Kiran Hey.. I have recently shifted to India from Canada. I have an infant baby whose mundan ceremony is to be done. Can you please tell me how safe is it to have this and doesnt the baby get hurt? What are the precautions that I can take to protect my lad?

Mundan is a tradition that has been taking place in india since the time man remembers and i don't think there is anything that should worry you. The people that do it are well versed in their job and are careful enough.

Also you should see to it that the hair which is cut doesnt enter the baby' s eyes as it is usually very short hair.Since head shaving also stimulates blood circulation in the head, a warm oil massage after the mundan would be great to pamper your lad!

What you should first of all ensure is that the euipment or scissors used is sterilzed or a new blade should be used and the person doing ti should be a professional.if your baby is cranky better to do it while he/she is sleeping. Also, u should wash well after mundan with luke warm water. Avoid shampoos and soaps. HopeI was helpful!

Subject:  A strict no no
Cutting anybody´ s hair leave alone shaving the head - be it a baby or grown up - is a strict no no. It is done only for unconscious patients and not for normal people. Babies are difficult to tonsure, no doubt, but professional barbers do it very well without so much as a nick. Babies cry not because they are hurt but because they are afraid of the unusual things happening to them. So do not worry. Hundreds of babies are tonsured every day in temples with ease. Go ahead, take your son/daughter to a place like Tirupati and get the tonsure done happily without much worry. Some crying will be there and the baby will normally start smiling immediately after.

Hi Latha, go for it even i have done and its gives you 100% cure from dandruff. Your parents are right. If you want to get rid of this problem on permanent basis go for it and see the change.... - Piu [View Message]
RE:hi friends
Shaving your head will only be a temporary relief from the problem. Other ways will take time but they at least will last long. There is no permanent relief to the problem but you can at least try to get relief from it.... - Neev [View Message]
RE:hi friends
Shaving your head won't help you get rid of dandruff. Dandruff is kind of an skin infection and once you hair will grow even a lil the dandruff will be back and you can not be bald for life of course. See a doctor instead.... - NN [View Message]
RE:hi friends
Shaving your head will not be a permanent solution to your dandruff problem as when your hair grow back the problem will mostly come back to. Instead go your medications and get a hold on it and then get rid of it.... - NN [View Message]
RE:hi friends
Yes there are many other ways to get rid of dandruff like you can consult a doctor about it and take lotions and medications for it. There are also many naturals ways that you can find out if you google them.... - Sakshi [View Message]
RE:Mundan ceremonies Boys vs Girls!
Yes even today some people keep boys over girls but it will only change if one takes an initiative like if you think celebrating functions for a girl is as important as it is for a boy then make a difference. Celebrate her too.... - Kanchi [View Message]
