Subject:  Adoption for NRIs
Hello Editor

My wife and I have been married for 2 and 1/2 years now.
We have had 2 miscarriages and are keen to have a family.
What is the procedure for us to proceed with this initiative?
We are financially well off and are both specialist doctors.
Any help you may offer will be appreciated.

Many thanks

Subject:  Complete Adoption Rules
I' ve read most of the information available on this site, however, there' s one aspect of Adoption I can say which has not been covered extensively on this site & that' s \" Adoption by NRIs\" . I would like to know if there is a website or source where I could get a complete list of Rules & Regulations for the Adoption Process, I mean like a Government website or something? Really appreciate if anyone could help.

Dear Vivek....

Its good to know that you want to adopt... it is definitely possible to adopt a child and take him/her to another country... however, you might want to push your plans down a few years... the simple reason being your age and your sex... as per Indian law, you are eligible to adopt (as a single male) only when you are 30. Wish you all the best!

I already have a girl child aged 9 yrs. We are looking forward to adopt a girl child. Can we go ahead with the adoption or is there any rule which does not permit us to adopt a girl child since we already have a girl child?

I am speaking from the point of view of someone who has gone through the process. Initially, my in-laws were not supportive of our decision to adopt a child. However, after we got our baby, they had a change of heart. Today, they dote on their grandchild and love to spoil her with toys. They have accepted her completely.

In our country, many people are still not in favour of adoption. Even if a couple cannot have children of their own, they still do not want to adopt a child. The reason given is that ' we do not know where the child came from' , ' how can we give this child our property' etc. Its time people learned to put these things behind them.

I don' t see why people of other faiths cannot be allowed to adopt children legally. Why make this distinction between Hindus and non-Hindus? Here in our country we have so many children who long for a home yet the present system is hell bent on making things difficult for people.

Well, Faisal... I have the same question as you do... coz I´ m a Christian and as per Indian law, Christians cannot adopt either... however, I do know a number of Christians who have adopted... successfully, including my own uncle... so there must be some way out... you´ ll have to check it out...

all the best!!

Subject:  why are you asking the hindus?
As far as I know india has separate muslim laws so maybe your muslim head doesn´ t believe in it.hindus have always had the culture of adoption for eons and ages and an adopted child is considered as their own maybe some of muslim leaders prevent you all from adopting though I think everybody should be allowed to adopt.
