Thanks for sharing this article.

Here’s some basic information about Islam:

God = Allah (means God in Arabic)
Religion = Islam
Followers = Muslims
Scripture = Holy Quran

For some reason people only mention the 5 pillars of Islam (which is PRACTICED by Muslims) When one talks about Islam it is equally important to mention the BELIEFS in Islam.
There are 6 Beliefs:

1. Belief in the Oneness of God (In Arabic God means Allah...this might come as a shock to some people, but Arab Christians & Jews also call God "Allah" - just the Arabic language)

2. Belief in all the Prophets that were sent starting with Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) including but not limited to Prophet Yousef / Suliman (Soloman) / Moses / Jesus / Mohammed (peace be upon them) just to name a few. Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) was/is the last and final prophet that was sent to mankind.

3. Belief in the Holy Scriptures ... Yes, Scriptures because we believe the scriptures that were sent to Prophet Moses & Prophet Isa / Jesus (peace be upon them)in their original format and Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) was sent with Holy Quran.

IMPORTANT: Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) didn't know how to read or write...he didn't 'write' Holy Quran like some ignorant people claim. Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) thru Angel Jibril / Gabriel in stages.

4. Belief in Angels. Angels are not some fantasy or imagination, they do exist…part of our belief.

5. Belief in the Day of Judgement. That one day this world will come to an end and everyone will be judge according to his/her deeds.

6. Belief in the Divine Destiny. That whatever happens is by the Will of God.

Thanks for reading,

Aisha

After reading this article, I was struck by how ignorant I was. Although I have Muslim friends, I know virtually nothing about their religion or why they follow certain practices like praying five times a day.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this article. I applaud your simplistic explanation of this delicate topic. The article is precise, without being preachy. I look forward to more articles like this in the future.
