I liked reading this article. Maybe I will give this art a try. I would like to be able to create a cute little bonsai tree of my own. Does anyone know of some books I can go through for further reference?

I'm not so sure this practice is all that great. This article talks about cutting off the roots. How can you endorse such a barbaric practice? Cutting off a plant's roots is like cutting off a person's arms and legs. Even if the plant grows after that, you have still played a part in mutilating it.

I am an amateur bonsai artist. There is tremendous work involved in this field and results take years to achieve. Having said that, the joy you get when you finally see the fruits of your labour is indescribable. The article has really simplified the process of growing a bonsai plant. I hope that it encourages more people to take up this hobby.

I always assumed that bonsai trees were starved of their nutrients to achieve such a small size. After reading this article, I realised that this is not the case. A gardener has to take special care of his plant to ensure that it remains healthy.

Introducing Children to Gardening
Do your children like gardening? How old should a child be before introducing him to this activity? What do you think children learn by having their own garden?... - Editor [View Message]
Good concept
I think that this is a good idea. This way parents get to spend time with their children as well as teach them something. Plus, gardening is a safe activity and can be carried out in the comfort of your own home. You can keep an eye on your children and be sure that they are not up to any mischief.... - Nidhi [View Message]
Who said its safe?
I don' t think gardening is an activity you can call safe. Considering the tools being used, you still have to supervise your child. I remember when I was small. My cousin and I were playing in the compound. We were pretending to be gardeners. My cousin stepped on a rake and it pierced his foot. He had to go to the hospital after that. They also gave him a tetanus shot.... - Gaurav [View Message]
accidents happen
I understand your point of view but these things happen. Road accidents kill thousands of people every day yet we still allow our children to use vehicles. Everything can be dangerous. The point is not to mollycoddle the children. If you really want to protect them then put them in a plastic bubble.... - Maya [View Message]
