at the moment i also have tonsillitis and i am 13 years of age. i woke up about 3 in the morning with a night sweat. i ended up throwing up several times. my tonsillis swelled up about 4 times their usual size. i spent an hour on the internet trying to figure out what i had. my results were that i have tonsillitis. during the time it took me to figure out that i had it the swelling severlly went down. My mother was going to take me to the er, but they seem to be healing. If any of you have any answers for me for what i should do please write me back i will cheak this site in the soon future thank you for your time.

Hi! Our child is only 10 months old, and she have a follicular tonsilitis with sypmtoms of high fever (39 degree Celcius)for more than a day now. She's easily irritated. She eats food and drink milk much less as usual. She's taking Antibiotic, and Paracetamol. We also give her suppositories due to the high fever. And, due to hot weather, she just stay in our room with the aircon, ON, all the time. Is this OK? Well, our doctor said' "t's fine". But, sometimes, I do hesitate. However, if we don't open the aircon, our baby sweats and cries a lot. Please advice. Thanks!

I have had tonsilitis many times i am 38 and i have had something simular to this but not sure what i have got my symtoms were stiff neck headaches because i did not feel right i checked the back of my throat and i saw a raised lump with 2 small yellow spots on but i was in no pain then i had a little temparture throat closed up a little dry throat found it a little hard to swallow but burning pain somewhat and it has been three weeks now and the lump on the back of my throat has not changed. i am a singer and it has affected my work and it is worrying me as i can not practice singing for the fear of causing more illness or damage to my throat. my doctor asked me if i am suffering from any stress he gave me pencillin and the another one after a week called something begining with E both did not get rid of what i have. and now he thinks i have acid coming from my stomach and has give me other tablets for that. After reading all your comments and reseaching and seeing my doc i am not convinced of what i have or how to cure it. i have also had gum diease which i think could of affected it. All i would like is a cure and a preventive especially as i am prone to it.

Hi there!!!This looks like a club of criples!!Well, I feel with all of you, guys since I have been battling this awful stuff for 4 days now and it really does not seem to haev improved at all.When I got to my GP I had some white pus on my left tonsill, no pain, no fever. Today, I have spotted that pus have dissapeared on one side but some new has appeared on the back side. Morover, it hurts soooo much and my stomach is completely up-side-down.I better don't complain to my husband anymore, cos he is probably fed up with my cries, so at least I write here. BTW, this is my 3rd tonsillities in 6 weeks and I had hardly had it before. I guess there must be something behind.

Hi my daughter is 4 1/2 years old and has tonsillitis and adenoisa removed, she has been having all symptoms for 6 months or so been to a specilest 5 times and now we are on a list of pationts to get surgery done the Dr. said to us it was going to take 6 to 8 months to get it done I almost fell off my chair so durring that time we have to bare with it as I am typing my daughter is on some anibiotics cause her throat was getting a vary bad oder comming from it , I was told by my mother inlaw that if you smell a bad smelly oder come from her mouth that means she has a infectionhe son my husban had tonsillitis when he was 5 years old and they were bad for months they got so bad they were size of galf balls and were leaking through his nose and in lots of pain thank god he got them out, what Im trying to say here is they the Dr.s will try everything to see if they will go away then after a few months or so then they will think about taking them out and only then, I feel bad for thoese who go through this pain touch wood I havent had anything like this happen to me nothing removed from this body , now that I have said that dang lol bye.

I have had my tonsils remved three times and I still get white spots where my tonsil bed is. The second ENT that removed them which was a very extensive surgery(I could not eat for 3 weeks) told me you can still get tonsillitis of the tounge. You still have tonsils deep in your throat and on the far back side of your tounge. Since the surgery my glands/lymph nodes in my neck seem to be swollen all the time and are very tender but when I get a sore throat which lasts months they hurt even when I turn my head. Gargle with warm salt water it helps a little. I am immune to all the antibiotics they gave me so now I have to go to some immune doctor and figure out what to do. I hope no one else ever has to go through this..

I have recently been exposed to this epidemic torture named 'Tonsillitis'; and let me just say Tonsillitis is nothing but a perpetual bully. First of i assumed i had had a sore throat...no, it was different this time... agonizing pain when swallowing, ear ache, tonsils redder than a tomato,lymph glands inflamed and swollen to the point of it being noticed bulging out of ur neck, and having to know that once u have taken that excruciating swallow another one will be waiting for you soon after. I slept for 30 minutes last night, drank an abundance of tee, and a ridiculous amount of soothing tablets which claimed to have an antiseptic... which i can righteously say right now that that was a load of bollix. The only means of soothing i could turn to was taking a shower which proved to be the most affective soother. The only thing i can look forward for tonight is another round with good old Tonsillitis. How i got it... i think i know the answer to that... kissing a girl who forgot to tell me that she was enduring this monster...thanks for the heads up, although i must admit she was worth it;)

Please read my earlier comments from below before reading this: I have my own idea of what these things are and what they are caused by. She ends up always having her fingers in her mouth and always worrying. I think the stress of worrying is one of the things causing the ulcers and putting her fingers in her mouth all the time is increasing the bad bacteria in her mouth. She also has a fair amount of dairy products which increases the bacteria in her mouth and drinks a lot of acidic fizzy drinks and juices which attack the lining of the throat and mouth and make it easier to be attacked by bacteria and also lead to swelling. Remember swelling is a sign that blood is in the area to help heal. You will notice that if you twist your ankle it swells in order to protect and heal the area. She also eats loads of throat sweets and other hard boiled sweets. The mouth and throat naturally has bacteria in it and this lifestyle can lead to imbalances in bacteria. Everything that comes into your body and blood naturally comes through your mouth nose and throat. Your tonsils are there to catch bits of food and bacteria etc in order to give your immune system a heads up warning about things that are coming into your body. Remember most things you eat and drink end up in your stomach and then into your blood in some form. Your blood has components which heal and remove unwanted germs or particles. Components in your blood determine if there is bacteria or viruses there. If your blood finds these unwanted bacteria or viruses it will fight them. After it has fought them it will produces more of the antibodies that recognise these bacteria or viruses, so that if they come back the antibodies are ready to fight these previously recognised unwanted things. Your blood also caries hormones which at night kill naturally occurring cancer cells. Cancer cells occur in the body largely caused by toxins. These toxins are often known as free radicals as they recurringly damage the bodies cells. Smoking causes lots of these free radicals in the body and so does over eating and a bad diet. Everyone intakes some bad toxins and bad bacteria and the blood/body removes them, there is nothing to be worried about. Swelling can be a sign that there is extra blood flow in an area and this shows that your blood is trying to do its job. Your brain controls your body. Some things your brain controls consciously and some things unconsciously. The human imagination is a very powerful thing. Imagination enables us to consider many possibilities. When the brain imagines something very vividly it doesn't know the difference between whether it is actually happening or not. So if you constantly think you have something wrong you can convince your own body to unnecessarily have an immune response and go into a protection mode. This protection mode can involve swelling in areas and a runny nose ( flu like symptoms). Also worrying too much will stress you out and can actually lower your immune system and leave you susceptible to ulcers and other illness you would usually be immune to. My girlfriend had reoccurring tonsillitis when she was a kid growing up. She had her tonsils out at age 16 because she had suspected Quinsy’s. She is now 27. In 11 years she has had no problems. Since October last year she has been suffering with mild sore throats and ulcers in her mouth. The sore throat changes side from left to right. She got a white spot on the right side of the throat and then developed a small pit hole on the same side of her throat. This was really worrying her. She is the type of person that really worries about things and double checks things. She is a little bit obsessive compulsive. She went to the doctor and was given penicillin which didn't help then erythromycin which again didn't help. She has had lots of swollen patches in her mouth in different places. She then got a small swollen patch above the white spot. The white spot is sunken into the throat tissue slightly. She has been to the dentist and he explained that she has had a lot of plaque which he said would cause some ulcers. He recommended she have her teeth cleaned by the hygienist. She had this done and it hasn't helped. She still keeps getting mouth ulcers and still has the sunken in white spot on the right side of her tonsil beds and the ditch just next to it and the small swollen area. She is constantly worrying about it and feeling it with her tongue. Sometimes her tongue feels funny and she always checks daily to see if anything changes. She now has a swollen patch and a little black round spot on the inside of her cheek. Neither of us are sure what these things are and no doctor has given a sound diagnosis. They all seem to not be worried about these things at all.

Lots of questions written above and not many answers. It seems that many people worry far too much about problems. If you are concerned about a problem take action by talking to specialists. Communicating with others is very good but try not to spend hours thinking about problems. Try especially to not be thinking about problems all night as sleep is important and you will not figure anything out that is going to help while you sit up all night. Thinking alone gets you nowhere, communicating with specialists and other sufferers can help and this can be done during the day. Remember your body responds to infections and this is one of the main reasons your tonsils flare up in the first place. Your tonsils are there for a reason so if you can keep them you are probably better of keeping them. They do help fight infections and removal should only take place if they are having a serious effect on your quality of life.

I have read most of the comments and it makes me kind of depressed actually... I have had chronic tonsilitis for over 4 years where I have an attack every 3 or 4 months... right now its the worse I have been ordered to inject bencetacyl (penicilin) every 2 weeks and its still doesnt help I am getting tonsilitis evere 2 weeks now, I get better and then fall back in... no dr wants to operate, the free medical service here is very bad... I heard of a guy who has been waiting 2 years for an approval on a tonsilectomy. I have tried every single antibiotic in the market and many forms of alternative medicine... the really disturbing part is that it doesnt hurt that much anymore its like my body got used to it... well I hope I can get these things remove... any advice, anyone?

i have recently had tonsilitus n 2 be honest i h8 it i had it on the weekend where i started getting symptoms i thought it was a flu but then i went to the doctors and the had told me it is this i totally h8 it but in a few days the pain has gone down yesterday for my dinner i had a bowl of porridge because my throat was hurting but today i feel much better with the amoxillin by doctor prescribed me with i feel much better as i am know eating small amounts of food but i still feel qutie sick after eating. I have a bout of tonsillitis which started at lunch time yesterday. My throat is extremely sore on one side and my neck looks like I have a golf ball wedged in it due to my glands being swollen! I get it approx every two years (am 29 ). I used to get it two or three times a year when I was a child. My advice is to get to the docs asap and get antibiotics as these really do tend to shorten the length of the illness and drink at least 3 litres of water a day (even though it totally hurts!) Also try and eat, even if you can only manage a small amount.

I would to know if tonsilitus is heredity as my wife had it bad for years,removed at age 25 or there abouts. our last 3 children have this problem ,our daughter (the last)had hers removed 14 years ago ,no problems until her third child ,a girl now they have grown back and are getting infected. her 3 year son has the same problem . Of our 3 boys the eldest was fairly free of infection ,however his 2 boys both had chronic tonsil. problems and have had them removed. Our 2 boys 33 and 35 years both stll get severe infections to the extent that it interferes with their breathing,therefore I think the problem could be heredity but the only information I could find obout this was written in russian unfortuneatly.

I just noticed today that I have a white blotch on my right tonsil that I can't remove. I'm not feeling really ill or anything, aside from maybe feeling more fatigued than usual. I did have a tonsil problem about 4 months ago (without the white blotches I think), and I'm worried it's coming back again! Iam 36& have had this bout of tonsilitis after nearly 8 yrs.Iam on my 5th day of antibiotics -Azitromycin for the bacterial infection. My throat feels a little better.I have.not eaten anything except fluids in the past 5 days. It is difficilt for people to understand how this makes you feel. The pain in the throat, bouts of cold,difficulty in swallowing, even coughing is painful (forget the gargle drill ). This has made me completely irritable at work & at home. There is no point seeking advise on removal from Doctors-most physicians advise you against it whereas most Surgeons advise for it (we know why).

An abscess may develop lateral to the tonsil during an infection, typically several days after the onset of tonsillitis. This is termed a peritonsillar abscess (or quinsy). It is believed that the first president of the United States, George Washington, died as a result of this complication. Rarely the infection may spread beyond the tonsil resulting in inflammation and infection of the internal jugular vein giving rise to a spreading septicaemia infection (Lemierre's syndrome). In chronic/recurrent cases (generally defined as seven episodes of tonsillitis in the preceding year, five episodes in each of the preceding two years or three episodes in each of the preceding three years)[2][3][4], or in acute cases where the palatine tonsils become so swollen that swallowing is impaired, a tonsillectomy can be performed to remove the tonsils. Patients whose tonsils have been removed are certainly still protected from infection by the rest of their immune system. When bacteria that collects on the tonsils consume mucus that has pooled in pits (referred to as "crypts") in the tonsils, a whitish-yellow deposit known as a tonsillolith is produced. These "tonsil stones" emit a very pungent odor due to the presence of volatile sulphur compounds. Tonsilloliths (or tonsil stones) which occur in the crypts of the tonsils can only be completely cured by tonsillectomy or by resurfacing the tonsil by laser, but practicing good oral hygiene and use of a water pick may help lessen the symptoms. It is still possible to get tonsiloliths after removal of the tonsils unless a complete tonsillectomy is performed. Hypertrophy of the tonsils can result in snoring, mouth breathing, disturbed sleep, and obstructive sleep apnea, during which the patient stops breathing and experiences a drop in the oxygen content in the bloodstream. A tonsillectomy can be curative. In very rare cases, diseases like rheumatic fever or glomerulonephritis can occur. Hope this is useful.

Hey, I never get ill but I've just randomly contracted tonsilitus. I 30 years old and have not had my tonsills swollen since i was a child. I have a really good immune system that usually kicks off a cold in 3 days. I got strep throat about two weeks ago. The doctor gave me penecillin. she told me to gargle with mouth wash. I tried the q-tip take off the white spots but she said that just irritates the tonsills more. Im going on my third week. the spots are gone but now the roof of my mouth has spots and gums are swollen. I feel like crying because I wake up every 2 hours at night. Its Emma again, just thought id say DONT trust the doctor. I took the antibiotics he gave me. It did nothing. I just woke up in the middle of the night seeing things because of the fever. So today, my mum called him and turns out he gave me medication for a 6 year old that has a slight sore throat! What the hell! Now they are so bad im barely managing to breathe and i cant swallow pills so they have to be crushed up into a calpol like thing. Its great to know the person we trust to take care of us can mistake a 15 year old with huge white tonsils as a 6 year old with a sore throat. I love my country. Feel better everyone. i had tonsilitis a lot when i was 5 and was very ill for a year. i started getting it back when i was a student, 3 or 4 times a year sometimes very painfully where i couldnt move and had a lot of pus on them. now i get it about once a year but im reluctant to use antibiotics as the germs can mutate! alkaseltzer xs really helps me, takes away the pain and makes me feel alive! 3 days of that, rest and healthy diet and it subsides. get well soon sufferers x

My little two year old son is now on his 9th bout of tonsillitis in the last 8 months. I'm desperately sorry for him, but puts a strain on our whole family, especially as we are both working parents. this past week has been hell..i contracted a bad case of viral tonsillitis wich basically means that antibiotics won't help. when i saw the doctor he was in aw at how big my tonsils were, one almost completely covered in white pus. i was given steroids to bring down the swelling and im feeling a bit better now. it makes me nervous to know that this can be a recurring problem..is it possible to only catch it once? cuz i think if i have to go thru this again i will get my tonsils removed..best of luck to u all..hope the suffering will stop soon

I am soooo tired of being sick!!! Although I do sympathyze with everyone here I am happy to hear that it is not only me. I have had a sore throat for over a year now and am sick of antibiotics. I have seen specialists and been swabbed for mono (it was negative) and the Dr. refuses to take them out. Apperently insurance companies do not believe it a nessesary surgery. I recently got tonsilitis for the first time a few months ago. (I'm 24) I was put on Cephalexin (Keflex) and recently stopped the 30-day course. However, my tonsilitis has returned again. I've noticed that gargling with alcohol (vodka) helps a little bit, but is difficult for me to do. I've tried hot water and salt gargling, and it didn't work very well. For those of you who work without medical insurance and live paycheck to paycheck, I can understand the difficulty of your situation (seeing as that's the same one I'm in).

Last summer I was diagnosed with tonsilitis. And I lost count on how many times I've gotten sick everyday even with antibiotics it came back. I have white stuff in the back of my throat I tried everything. The worst pain of my life. My sister-in-law recommended me to get a Q-tip and dipp it in alcohol and rubb the back of my throat with it. (Don't swallow rinse mouth with water) It was painful in some spots. But it seems to be working. I feel much better and the white stuff is clearing, headache gone. I've been doing it for three days now and pain has been disappearing. She said it worked for her. my tips are..... Soluable asprin for the pain, and keeping the temperature down, Keep your neck warm, by loosely wrapping a scarf around it, stay off dairy products whlst you are ill, and Gargle as much as you can, preferably with salt water, Hope it helps, this has worked for me, and where as with doctors and pills i was sick for about a week or so, now i can get better in about 4-5 days. Just do what your body tells you to do, and most of all rest, and sleep. Your body will mend so much quicker if you sleep!

Hi All, I've had tonsillitis now for 5 days, am in absolute agony with swallowing today, can't eat, can't drink, can't sleep! Funny thing about it is I had my tonsils out when I was 7 years old, I'm now nearly 29! However, at least its my first bout since then!! (fingers crossed) I didn't actually realise that you could still get tonsillitis once you've had them out but apparently so. I was told by the doc that when you do get it (and you have none) its actually a hell of a lot more painful as you do not have your tonsils there to take in (swell) with the infection. Well good luck to you all, just got antibiotics today so hopefully they'll kick in soon as pain is unbearable. Only thing that keeps me okay is a few glasses of wine!

I have tonsillitus roughly 3-5 times a year but it is chronic tonsilitus, my throat swells up so much i have to eat/drink through a straw for two-six weeks depending on how bad it is. i get the usual yellow spots on my tonsils and it is like swallowing razor blades, ive found the best thing to do is to gargle with co-codomol then swallow if you can, also lots of anti-inflamataries can be good, thinking of having them out cos i cannot stand the smell of anti-biotics anymore haha, Ive heard it can be quite a dangerous operation to have is this true? thanks and happy gargling

I've had problems with tonsilitis all my life, but like a lot of people I don't want to have an operation. I suffer from CFS too, so an op doesn't feel like a good option. One day I maybe driven to it, but not just yet. I've got tonsilitis at the moment and this dose has been odd. I started gargling with salty water each night a while ago and I think that's why the tonsilitis didn't do its usual stuff. I don't have the awful pain this time and I've by-passed the flu synptoms, but there is infection on the right side of my throat and I have low level fever, no strngth and some aches and pains. So far I've been ill for over 6 weeks! I'm starting to get concerned because of the length of time this has been going on. My bouts of tonsilitis are always protracted, but the infection usually goes in a few weeks. I've done all the gargling stuuf and right now I'm trying gargling with antibiotics. Since I took antibiotics for my tonsilitis last winter, I don't dare take them this year. Taking lots of antibiotics was what ruined my health and left me with the CFS. So I don't really know what to try next and will be glad of any suggestions. Meanwhile, it's really helpful to know that I'm in good company with this rotten illness. ergh, it's horrid. i'm 24 and suffering with my 3rd round of tonsillitis in 3 weeks. Started on amoxycillin - had an allergic reaction to that but it seemed to clear it, two days after the course it flared back up again, so got erythromycin, which made me feel very sick, but it worked, then 2 days later got struck down a third time only this time they've gone septic, so a really long course of antibiotics now. Much sympathy for anyone who's suffering, it really is painful. I find it's so much worse in the morning, but i've found warm fluids to be much more soothing than cold or hot drinks. I've also found that taking anadin extra relieves the pain long enough for me to eat something light (but this doesn't help much if your antibiotics are making you sick!). Considering a tonsillectomy at the moment, but a bit scared of operations so i might just suffer instead! get well soon guys!

I'm amazed and comforted to find that this thread shows the effect tonsillitis and related deseases have on peoples lives. I recently had a severe case where tonsillitis and strep throat were complicated by an abcsess in my tonsil. This made them swell so much, ONE tonsil almost shut my throat. Luckly, I did not have an abcsess in both and the antibiotics did work rapidly... not for pain, but atleast for swelling. I have since taken 10 days of antibiotics, which finished 6 days ago. As of last night, the same tonsil is again swollen. It does not have any obvious polyps so I suspect that the abcsess is still present. I will find out from my doctor as to what is going on.

Just turned 20 and this is my first case of tonsillitis. I have had tonsillitis for about 6 days before I saw a doctor, thinking it was just a raspy throat until the intermitten fevers, dyspnea, hard swollen glands and lymph nodes (cervical chain and submental), difficult time seeing my own pharynx, and then the pain of swallowing an intire box of thumb tacs. Went to the Doctor and he wrote me out for Amoxicillin 500mg pill every 8 hours for 10 days. it's been just about 2 days, 5 pills into my treatment. I believe the infection has started to decline. The best pain pill i used out of 5 brands is Advil or ibuprofen 200mg tablets. I take about 2-3 pills every 6 hours and it keeps the inflammation and pain at bay. I usually get this horrible illness a couple of times a year in fact i have it right now,i have found the best thing for the pain is to take two paracetamol and two ibuprofen tablets,this may sound like a bit of an overdose but it is safe and very affective.Also get some penacillin the sooner you get it into your system the better.Cheers!

I have had tonsilits on and off for 10 years and I am too scared to have them out, but if you can do it get it done in your doctor will, my friend who was 65 at the time had hers out she was sick for a few days and fine after that, you can get good drugs, I have a dose of it at the moment and the flu, been to dr and got antiboticis they work but as soon as I am finished them it starts again I am going to try some betadine iodine throat gargle and see how that works if its good I will let you guys know, best thing to do it take heaps of vitamin C, drink pure orange juice, garlge with salt and water (this is ick but you get use to it, do it after you have had something to eat and you wont reach) get some early nights and rest when you are sick ! i hope mine goes away otherwise one day they will have to come out I am getting sick of the sore throats, this case was the worse I ever had the dr said I have a severly infected throat ! Awww, I really feel for all of you suffering from this "pain in the neck" My hubby is 26 and in bed after a horrendous night - he has severe tonsillitis. Again, good rest, plenty of fluids and regular pain relief is good. Hubby is on Penicillin and fingers crossed they will take affect sometime today/tonight/tomorrow. He suffers from Behcet's disease too - which is an auto immune system disorder causing inflammation in the body - which cannot be a good thing with this flamin tonsillitis thing. Anyway, stay positive, keep hydrated, if you cannot eat try soup, or complan, or make a smoothie with frozen fruits. I read allot about gargling salt water and aspirin on this page so I can only assume it works - we will be trying it later on thats for sure.x Dont know why the restless nights occur and yet he is able to sleep of a day? I have had this many times. I usually get it 3 times a year. My sister had hers removed at 18, and I am 26 now and refuse to go through that surgery. Essentially, I try to keep my mouth clean to avoid bacterial infection if the sore throat is caused by a virus. I gargle with warm salt water to sort of rough clean the area, then I gargle with antibacterial mouthwash. I try to use some sort of decongestiant to help out, and I use headache powders for pain, though this may not be safe. Other pain killers work about as well, but there may be a danger with the aspirin I use. When it really gets to hurting, I actually put a bit of oragel on my finger and gently coat my tonsills with it. Not a thick coat, just a small one. I try not to gag myself. It burns for a few seconds, but it really works to ease the pain off, if only long enough to get to sleep. I am no doctor, so I do not know if this is safe, but I tried it once with a desperate sore throat that was included as a free bonus with a flu, and it worked. Good luck.

I'm 24 years old and for the last 2 or 3 years my tonsiles are constantly swollen and produce these little yellowish balls of pus like stuff. My throat is constantly alittle redder than it's supposed to be and I have bumps in the back of my throat. But I don't usually have a sore throat. Right now though my lymphoid glands are swollen on my right side and kinda hurts...but not bad. I'm going to an ear, nose and throat specialist for my nose and now my throat to see what is going on. hello there everyone, my heart and my tonsiles go out to ya, lol, this is my 6th episoed, and OMG i have never felt so ill in my life, i am normally very up beat and a happy go lucky person, but when i get tonsilities it brings my whole world down with all the pain and the constant chill, headaches and ear pains, its draining, well what i have been doing is gargaling with hydrogen peroxide, it seems to help get rid of some of the pus in the back of the throat, as far as the pain i take aleve, but it helps a little not much, a friend of mine told me that her doc told her to gargel with warm water, alchol and porxide mixed together, like 1 tablespoon of alchohol and 1 of poroxide in a 1/2 cup of warm water, and gargel with that at leat 3 times a day, i tried it and it went down my throat i swallowed some and gaged on it and well now the little bite of food i could get down for lunch is down the toilet and my throat still hurts, but i will try it again later, there has got to be another way to live with this!!!!! When I hade my first episodeds i went to the doctor they gave my antibiotics, but it just came back again the next month, it seems to be areacurring thing for me and it comes back at the same time each year, I hate it so much, I also feel so self concius about my breath because it smells so bad, the mints dont help at all and iam so tiered of eating halls!!! well i feel like i have shared enough thank you to all the people that read my blogg, i hope you guys feel better sonn and i pray that it never comes back to hunt us!!!!

I've just been self-diagnosed with tonsillitis. It hurts to swallow, and i believe the cause for me was my smoking (8-10 cigarettes a day, sometimes less.) Salt water helps a LOT. Also, if you have a small bright flashlight or a medical light, this will help to (with the aid of a toothbrush or rubber gum pick) remove polyps around the tonsils that can worsen the infection or even be the original cause. Do NOT try this if you don't know where to look for polyps or can't take a little pain. Polyps can be found mostly on the top behind of the tonsil(s.) Scoop them out, and wash them down the drain, followed by a thorough rinse and directed gargle with warm salt water. Good luck and wish me the same. Oh, and by the way, the salt water mixture should be 1/4 of a teaspoon for every cup of water or in metric, 1.05 teaspoons for every liter of water.

This is the 2nd time in 2 years that i got tonsillitis again... I remembered the 1st time it felt like razor blades when i swallowed, my neice at the time had a flu, it was a hot june month i got the chill spells, it was the worst colds i ever had in my life! Two days later my throat started to feel sore, i took halls and cepacol to relieve the pain, then when i started eating it started to hurt... i looked in the mirror.. OMG!! I had these white spots all over my tonsils and the back of my throat! I told my mom about it, she looked at it, and said: "Uh oh, you have tonsillitis my dear". I didnt know what that was.. my dad would drive me to the medical center early the next day, and several hours later the doctor told me to get penasillin for the infection. He also told me that it will come back again, he also said he had tonsillitis 3 times his whole life. I was dissapointed at hearing it might come back... I took the penasillin and after 3 days, my throat felt normal again and I could eat!! Well, 2 years later in June again, my neice had recovered from a cold, guess what... i now have white spots in the back of my throat and tonsils, i just had a flu... Its back....

All I can say is it is horrible - I;m in such pain. I don't want to swallow or eat. I've gargled watered down TCP had loads os pain killers but it's still not gone - I've had it 6 days so far!

Hey, Well now look no one is gonna die from having tonsillitus, although the pain may lead you to believe so! I suffered with this terrible illness often as a child and throughout my teens, and now at the age of 28 it has returned, although this time it has been the worst yet..... Im not going to go into the pain, as i just cant describe it, And for all of you out there, worrying about being hungry and not being able to swallow, well if you still have your appetite then you probably aren't that sick anyway. I was on holiday in Cyprus last week when the Illness came upon me very quickly, i knew what it was immediately, and within 4 hrs i was a wreck. Shivers, Sweats, Pain, the lot! So called the Local Doc out, gave me some pills, eventually it seemed to kill it off.......... But just when i thought i was all cured, i felt an uneasy ache in my neck that seemed to get worse, then throughout the day i became dizzy and light headed..... it was then i knew that Tonsillitus was not done with me yet! So off i went again, hot and cold sweats, Terrible Heat Rashes, More pills (Penicillin v this time- Apparently the Doc in Cyprus had given me the wrong pills.. Amoxillin or something) So here i am my 2nd night of no sleep and 3rd day of no food, barely able to drink water without it making me gag (not pleasant given the pain level already attained in the throat area) But anyway we all get sick dont we, im sure ill be sick for a while yet, and it will take a while for my body to recover from this ordeal. But all of you just please remember.... IT COULD BE SO MUCH WORSE THAN A SORE THROAT!!!!! you will recover eventually. Some people dont have that luxury to look forward to do they?! My daughter had tonsillitus 3times in 2 weeks and the last time she was admitted to hospital for three days where the treatment was draining an abcess which had developed in one tonsil, while also being on a drip of antibiotics, she said it wasnt painful and within the day was up and about with no discomfort

i'm 24. i've had tonsilitis a few times. i have it now. gargling salt water helps a bit. drink plenty of fluids (stay away from sugary drinks as they make your throat hurt more), vitamin c and take care of your body. if it gets really bad, go to the docs and get antibiotics.

I am a 30 year old teacher and have just had tonsillitis for about the fourth time ever. I never had it as a child and am very grateful, it must be awful for little ones. People are right when they say unless you have had it you don't know how painful it is. I cried with the pain. Luckily for me antibiotics worked within 24 hours. I currently have CHRONIC tonsilitis and have huge sympathies for anyone who gets this vile illness. Ar first I was reluctant to go to the Gps, thinking they'd laugh me out the door for going with a 'sore throat'. However, the absolute agony resulted in me screaming and crying with pain and I had to call the emergency Dr out to my house. I am now on Amoxcyllin 500 antiobiotics and very strong pain killers. I had to get them on prescription as the strongest ones available over the counter didn't work. I hate taking antiobiotic as I believe they can long term ruin the immune system - but when you've got pain like this, you'll take anything to quell it. Even with these drugs the pain in my throat is hellish and my left glands have swollen to a ping pong size. I hope to God this goes soon as the pain is insufferable. I have cried in agony three nights on the trot and am also totally exhausted now too. I haven't eaten for 3 days and can barely drink, such is the pain. My body has even given up producing much saliva so I am barely swallowing - and this is after having taken the medication. The Dr says if things aren't better by tomorrow I may have to go to hospital. So don't underestimate this illness, it can be really serious.

The most gutting thing is im on my exams just now and cant take any days off school :( My throat is in agony especially in the mornings were i struggle to eat my breakfast. Before accepting a diagnosis or medication of any kind, request a throat culture be taken - to ensure what you have. Otherwise, the doctors can only guess, and tonsilitis, strep, and mono have very similar symptoms. Neither will antibiotics help viral tonsilitis, so why pay/take them? Do your research. I feel your pain.

just had an awful week with acute tonsilitus - nothing cute about it... i had tonsillitus a few times when younger - but not for some time. My left tonsill swelled up and it became very painful to swallow (razor blades n broken glass), this combined with fever / flu type symptoms made me go stright to the doctor, they prescribed strong pain killers and antibiotics - i started these 3 days ago and i can feel the effects already - if you think you might have tonsillitus go to the doctors. I had great diffiulty drinking & found cold water through a straw did the trick for me i drank lots of water and i seem to be on the mend. My sympathies to all who are suffering. I had my tonsils removed at nineteen, I suffered as a child with them with constant ear infections. They were the size of a golf ball to begin with,and once infected look out, I'd scream silently from the throbbing, jabbing pain. I have no regrets in having them removed. I have tonsiltis at the moment :( I dont suffer from it much but its wednesday now and I have had it since saturday morning:( I have antibiotics but they havent started working yet I dont think but I keep having calpol every 4 hours!! Im not sure wheter I'kll be well enough to school tomorrow :( I want to go school as we wont be doing much as we break up for easter on the 7th april 06. Hey to all! Hope u guys feel better n trust me wen i say that this is a nightmare!! I've been having sore throat n inflamed tonsils for sum time now off and on but never like it is now. Yesterday i started having this really bad pain in my throat, last night when i looked, my left tonsil was literally sitting on my tongue, full of nasty white stuff. I couldn't sleep last night where i was so afraid wondering what was wrong with me! I cried, was so unhappy, went to see a doctor today and was precribed penicillin. Ever since i left the doctor i've been feeling so ill and feverish, in horrible pain! It hurts like hell when i swallow, going throu terror when taking the medication, i didn eat anything all day but a few hours ago i tried eatn sum chicken soup, it hurt like hell but my boyfriend really wanted me to eat sumtin so i tried, i tried gargling salt water and i am now tryin to keep up with water and fruit juices but it burns! I dont have it as bad as most of u guys so i hope that i never reach that stage because u guys seem to be goin throu so much! I'm sorry and i hope u feel better now! Why should anyone have to go throu this dreadful pain??? now the right tonsil is gettin swollen n the white stuff! Im in so much pain i cant help but to cry! take care guys! To All the idiots, cracking jokes, in this thread, I hope you wake up tomorrow, with severe tonsilitis.. I have been injured many times, and many ways, as well as suffered server virus/bacteria infections.. Tonsilities, rates very high, in the most uncomfortable / painful..It is no laughing matter.. I personally recommend, gargling with warm salt water, and or antiseptic mouthwash.. A common side sympton is the blocked nose.. When you sleep, using your mouth to breathe, it drys out, irritating your throat.. A good tip is to try and clear your sinus, so you can breathe through your nose during sleep.. but words are weak, and when suffering from tonsilitis, hours seems like days.. Be strong, keep your fluids up and get plenty of rest.. Good Luck

I am 27 and have been prone to getting tonsillitis for years although this is the first time in about 3 years. The only advice I can give is to try and catch the infection early if u can by getting penicillin from ur doctor, this is the only cure for it and if you dont get it you will be in for a very unpleasent time and may end up in hospital. Also take ibuprofen and paracetamol this will help slow the infections developing process down and help u deal with the pain (especially at night). Try and drink fresh orange and water aswell as its very easy to become dehydrated when you have tonsillitis. Hope this helps a few people, its what I have found works for me over the years of having tonsillitis.

I have large tonsils doc said mine is abnormal in size because its bigger than the usual size. If I'll have tonsillitis it would be big problem but thank God i dont get tonsillitis easily. My husband always suffer from tonsillitis. He was hospitalized because of the infection. Oral antibiotics wont do so he was given antibiotics and vitamin C through IV infusion. I dont know if I am right about this that tonsillitis is also hereditary? Unfortunately my 6 month old son also suffers from tonsillitis. He had one wen he was 2 months old and had it again recently. Doc gave him cefalexin and said that he should always take vitamin C because its a good in fighting infections...

firstly i would like to say how i sympathise to those who have or had have tonsillitis it is unbearable.In my case my symptoms are swollen lymph glands difficulty swallowinganything(from my own saliva to water or food) since yesterday the infection is now worse in my mouth with errupting ulcers and difficulty closing mouth,i had many temperatures and my nights sleep were dreadfull expessially a few days ago i woke up retching bringing nothing up my nan made me a cuppa and i went back 2 sleep howevver moments later i was on the run to the bathroom only just making it bringing up the tea and what nan claims to be the pus from the tonsillitis,all i know is it is awfull it takes over your life you cant carry on going to work/school/college you have to have at least a week in bed and even then you feel like crap so for all those suffers i wish you a speedy recovery

i,m 42 i first had tonsilitis when i was 9 years old, put me in hospital for 14 days on ice with a temprature of 110, had glandular fever twice when i was 16 years old 8-10 weeks off school then i,ve had it 2-3 times a year for the next 30years then about 2 years ago i started to get it about 4-5 times a year,amoxicillin and penicillin works, things to avoid are late nights, stress, too much excercise as it depletes the immune system, junk food, wished i had had them out when i was younger, but now is not an option as i don,t really want to bleed to death as i,ve read can happen. pain is tempory- glory is forever.

i hate having Tonsilitis. Infact i have it now. it's not as bad as last time. last time i ended up in hospital after a few days on a drip cos my uvila got so swollen i couldnt swollow or hardly breath! this time round i went to the doctors and guess what he said, gargle and you'll be fine. No help what so ever. best tip i have for the pain, one paracetamol and one iburaphen (if i spelt that right) every 4 hours. dont sit up like me in bed and cry, it gets worse at night, have a nice drink of water next to you. works for me. once you get it it will keep coming back. why wont the doctors take out tonsils out now??

I'm one of the very many to be suffering from tonsillitis now. I've had for about 4 weeks. First, it attacked my left tonsil and made it sore to swallow.. took antibiotics and died down a little bit. Had all that wonderful mucus (white fuzz) on both tonsils. Had a bad fever the very first day and was sick to my stomach. Then it came after my left tonsil. I was fortunate enough to only have about 4 days total of swallowing pains; I gargled warm/hot salt water.. it really does help but tastes disgusting.. so in result I'd have some juice right after each gargle. I've noticed in my neck when I lean my head back I have a bulge in my throat from it being so swollen, only on the left side though. I've been fortunate and not had much pain at all, it's just an annoying illness that just won't seem to go away. So, in result I'll probably have surgery. The things I found that got me through it were gargling the salt water, it helps with swallowing pains and sore throat.. the warmer the better; nyquil at night to sleep sounder; A LOT of water and juice; and the doctor also recommended this immune booster drink. You can get it in the States, called E-MER-GEN-CY. Ask your pharmacist about it, because you really need to be building your immune system with this infection! Hope you all feel better soon!

Well what can i say i no longer feel alone with the pain i feel!i Have sufferd from tonsilitus about twice in the last 2 years and i never thought it was that bad... untill last week it started with a cough ect and then the fever,sore throat, earache vomiting and the most disgusting gunk on my tonsils !!! ewwww i do not want this to keep happening ! but i found tht the thing thts helped with the pain more is 'ice lollies', not ice cream as this is dairy- but get the long round ice lollies coz then u can press the end on the back of ur throat and it realy numbs the pain, and is also soothing to swallow !! I have had tonsilitis several time a year. It started from once a year and then twice and 3, 4,... After my first time having it, I also have sinusitis and bronchitis followed. My doctor told me that to avoid it to come back again and again, I need to have enough rest. Must try to sleep at least 8 hr a night. Also not a good idea to be on diet by skipping some meals. I need to have healthy meals at least 3 times a day. Make sure myself get enough neccessary vitamins and mineral. Avoid drinking cold drinks-only drink room temperatured drinks! It was very difficult for me as I'm a night person. I get used to have 3 to 5 hours for sleeping each night. Sometimes I even start sleeping at 5am!!! I get used to skip my breakfast and have only lunch and dinner. I love chewing ice and drink all those cold drinks. Compare to tonsilitis agonised pain, it is worthy to give up these things I get used to. Start following my doctor's advices, I find it helps. From having tonsilitis once in 2 months, now it has been 6 months I haven't got it. Now I'm searching for some herbal stuff to help strengthening the immune system which also help in tonsilitis. If I try it and it works, I will tell you here later. All the best!!!!

i have tonsillitis right now and i swear to god, child birth is NOTHING compared to this horrible nasty thing. this crap illness has left me in tears so many times these past few days. i started getting it on thursday along with a slight cold. then i got the bad fever, the tonsils got more inflamed, and yes before i knew it, i couldnt eat a thing, i didnt wanna sleep cause the pain kept me awake, i couldnt keep down liquids cause most of it would just fall back out my mouth. my trouble is i have the most awful blocked up nose to go with it. it started the same time as my tonsillitis and i cant breathe through it, smell or taste anything. its like someone put cement up my nostrils in my sleep. its horrible. so that means at night i have to breathe through my mouth, which in turn dries my throat out, which guess what???....yes, it makes my throat hurt like effin crazy. my ears are killing me too, made even worse when i swallow. not really eaten and when i have ive brought it all back up..ugh...so thats now giving me a kinda bad stomach cause of all the painkillers and other tabs im taking. hope everyone gets well soon.

I had my tonsils out when I was 4 and have spent the last 31 years looking on with pity as friends and family who weren't so lucky suffer with tonsillitis. Alas, I am smug no more! I am bang in the middle of an extremely acute throat infection that at one point saw my temp reach 41.3 (106.3). I have all the nastiest symptoms and feel beyond dreadful. The entire area of my throat including the bit from where the tonsils were removed is infected. Add the fact that when my son had his tonsils out they became infected and he threw up for a week I'm no longer sure I would recommend having them out despite all those years of respite. Though I should say that I have a compromised immune system anyway because of other health problems so perhaps that contributed to the severity.

Hi guys, Day 7 of the Tonsillitus experience....and it sure isnt fun! Started off with normal flu like symptoms which seemed natural as living in halls of residence at Uni....everyone gets some sort of freshers flu, even in second term! However as much as it killed me to stay in and confine myself to my bed for the majority of the week, i didnt get any better. My throat felt awful...i couldnt swallow anything and when i had to the pain in my throat and ears was horrific. Also my voice started sounding really strange and people found it difficult to understand me and i found it difficult to talk! I went to Doctors few days ago and was prescribed as having bad tonsillitus and given penicillin, told to gargle soluble aspirin etc...dont feel much better though at the moment and am so bored and emotional being stuck in bed when i can hear my hall mates coming in from nights out :( Phoned Doctors again today under instructions from mum....the doc said that i have to go back on monday as she feels because of the sound of my voice and symptoms, i may have glandular fever.....HELP! Anyone have any remedies to combat this type of thing?! Well hope everyone is soon feeling much better...i can sympathise with you all- this is a killer.

I have over the years had to deal with reocurring bouts of tonsillitis. One year i'll have to cope with it numerous times, other years not at all. Regardless a few days ago i noticed that farmilliar feeling, throat soreness, white bits, swelling etc. Although it appeared to be a mild case it did start to affect my speach. In previous instances i would have gone to my doctor who would immediatly prescribe me peniciline. I decided to try a different approach, being that i wasn't in excruciating pain. I drove over to my local health food store and had a talk with them. Immediatly the woman recommended that i start a course on oregano oil capsiles. Again being a skeptic thought she must have been bloody nuts esp after seeing the price on the bottle, $40.00 cad. She convinced me to give them a try and i can say that after two days i am feeling so much better,"knock on wood". Geez this sounds like an informercial but seriously coming from someone who has dealt with reoccuring tonsillitis its just another option for you, i am a "homeopathly" skeptic but really didnt want to be back on peniciline again and it seems to have worked out in my favour. By the way the capsules i am on are called "Oregacyn" made by north amercican herb and spice. P.S the capsules i'm on produce wicked oregano burps and other gas bi-products. just to let you know

Holy Crap... I just got tonsillitis like, 4 days ago and lemme just tell you how bad it is... I cant hardly talk and i sure as hell cant eat anything. i've been getting tonsilitis about 6-8 times a year for the last couple of years and all the doctor is giving me is antibiotics.again and again.gargaling salt and water is good for a sore throat because it thoughens your throat but with tonsilitis it just irritates the tonsils and spreads the infection.eating ice cream does soothe the pain but because you cant eat much it gets sickening.try your best to stay away from doctor and painkillers but just take a few days off work or school and try to force down food and drink plenty of fluids especially juices.i know how much it hurts but your immune system should overcome it and you shouldn't suffer from tonsilitis any more but if it keeps happening get them out its probably for the best

im 15, so far iv been tested for mono and strep troat. this all happend two days ago when i got a sore troat. i had always gotten sore troat. iv even had strep troat before but that was three years ago. but this was different it was very difficult to swollow and my right tonsil was extreamly swollen ,and it had a bunch of white nasty stuff on it later it spread to my left one every day it was getting harder and harder to swollow,i coulnt eat i started to get neck and ear pains it was was getting so bad i was waking up every half hour because of the pain i went to the doctor who just tested me for mono and strep both tests came back negitive my doctor thougt it may have been an apses (perry tonsil something ?) lol so they perscribed me with clindamycin and sent me to an ENT he said that it wasnt an apses he couldnt drain it yet because it wasnt bad enough he said that my tissue around my tonsils was dieing thats what caused it to be all smelly and gross looking he gave me some pain medacation and told me to come back on monday if i didnt get better on its own or half my tissue in my tonsils was dead then he said they have to come out he still thinks i have mono or mono caused it he said the only reason it wasnt showing up on the tests because the infection was so bad you cant really tell what i have but im praying that they dont have to come out because a friend of mine said that it hurts like hell and im not one for pain so will see if these babies have to come out on monday.

No definitive cures. Not even removal apparently. 31 yr old. Have had acute viral tonsilitis at least twice a year now for 10 or 12 yrs. The older you are the more pain the removal procedure causes, apparently, so if you are the parent or guardian of someone with acute or even subacute, get the removal done sharpish. It wont stop the pain entirely but better chance of not being as severe. Things to do - Gargle with salt and water, regularly. Gargle with and swallow dispersible aspirin. Ultra Chloraseptic spray works well in providing some relief from the razor blade / glass swallowing torture of eating, drinking, general reflex swalowing. Also. Get into bed and sweat the thing out. My old doctor used to prescribe antibiotics on a regular basis (you know, prescription out and pen in hand before you even get through the door) but his replacement says this can often have little effect. I didnt believe her at first but dammit, shes right. Aspirin, Beechams flu plus capsules, salt water gargles, Ultra Chloraseptic spray (benzocaine). Maybe some ibuprofen as well. Don't O.D. and despite the fact it hurts like something borne of hell, drink plenty fluid. Ice cubes are decent and also have the added bonus of numbing the throat for a while. I wish there was a cast iron cure for this but there aint. Best of luck people :)

Hi I am 15 years old. i have chronic tonsillitis. I was supposed to get my tonsils out the 27th of dec. but the dr. had to go somewhere. I am now getting them out jan 10th which is this coming tuesday.I will miss a lot of school but I really need them out because they swell up to where they touch eachother. i'm a nineteen year old.i used have very frequent tonsilitis like once in every month.So, to prevent it, i dont drink any cold water n it doesnt seem to come. so i didnt have tonsilitis for like six months straight. but as time goes by, even when i dont drink cold water, it still comes!i guess i have to prevent acidic products as well, as i think thats the main cause of it. the doctor recommends that i remove it, but i heard that it's very painful, afterall my tonsils are not that bad, theyre just swollen and red(no spots, pus etc).so i dont know if i shud remove it or control my diet(no cold stuff, no acidic stuff, n from wut i read in the above articles, no dairy stuff as well. man, wut is there left 4 me to eat?). or maybe each night i shud gargle with warm water n salt. the doctor recommends that too. i dont know if i shud remove them or not...sigh..

Five days of soart throat, dizziness, can't sleep, and the worst part is can't eat. Although the medication says 'take with food'. My tonsils looks very bad, red with white spots all over it left and right side. I have a high fever, i cant sleep, my head hurts.I can't be around people who smokes it makes it even worst. My daughter wants to play and i can't play cause am to tried, sick and can't concentrate on doing anything rite. And i can't even drink water, my body won't let it go down. I had my tonsils out at the age of twelve. I have never looked back! The procedure wasn't half as bad as the pain of tonsillitis itself so I would suggest to anyone who has tonsillitis quite often to get them out. My doctor said that they only usually operate on people who have it 6 times or more per year..although i had it only 4 times a year roughly (and that was bad enough) but luckily she referred me to get them out. But now..I am reading this because I have a terrible terrible sore throat, it started a couple of days ago and I thought it would probably be away by now, but this morning I woke up and i am in agony with it. Ok, it doesn't have all the side effects that tonsillitis used to have (eg. feverishnes, temperature, heavy joints etc.) but it sure is the same pain i used to get. I had the same pain about 4 weeks ago and it's making me very annoyed. It's xmas eve and I just wanted to chill out tonight and have a drink etc. but now I can't as I don't even feel my usual self - I feel like I can't be bothered! Oh well, maybe it's just the cold winter weather at it's best - making everyone ill! Hopefully it will get better soon!

One of Gods biggest errors in designing the otherwise incredible human body, seems to definitely be the tonsils. They do bugger all for us humans, other than cause pain for quite a few people, often seriously affecting peoples lives adversely. This is the 3rd time I've gotten tonsilitus in 3 years, and it seems to make my body seriously ill. The headache and achey body was first to kick in this time, no sleep the last 2 nights, and now the fever and nausea is simply unbearable. I'm being sick a lot, and cant even hold down water or pills at the moment, my bodies rejecting everything. The throat has reddish spots mainly on the right side at the moment at least, and is progressingly getting worse. Its the shaking and dizziness that I just cant cope with, cant sleep or anything. My throats been quite big for the past 6 months which causes food to get trapped and bad breath. With those longterm problems I'm starting to think there's some longterm problems with the throat, and want to get a full diagnosis. Going to see the doctor today and will update later. In the meantime from what I've read here I've picked out the following things to follow up: Tylenol - fever and headaches Penicillin VK tablets Dequacaine lozenges Ginsent tea with lemon

a few months ago i had tonsilitis for the first time in my life i kept wondering why i got it and how i found out a girl that kissed me had it so she must of gave it to me and she got it after permorming oral sex on a couple guys. i got better after seeing a doctor and getting antibiotics but since then its came back to me like 3 times and i hate it its so painfull swallowing. but at the moment its gone just after a few days of antibiotics so i advise every1 to not kiss any1 with it, it is bacterial and at first i thought i might of had an std or sumthing but its just bad tonsilitis i got from that dirty bitch so dont kiss grubby people and dont kiss people if u have it and the only cure is to boost up yor imune system with good bacterias to fight bad bacterias becuase antibiotics kills good bacterias there are these pills called inner health plus with have ova 25 billion good bacterias in each capsule thats like eating 25 tubs of yogurt so i recomend that and neva stop taking antibiotics untill the prescription course is over.

I have taken many anitbiotics like augmentin, (I forgot the others) for my tonsillitis but didn't help until I tried Clarithomycin. When the redness was gone, saw I saw an open healed hole. I also saw some yellowish part of my tonsils. I am not sure if my tonsillitis are completely healed up.

I have just recovered from tonsilitis for the second time this year. I have had it on and off for 10 years and there is no worse pain in the world. This time was particularly horrible because i was vomitting violently as i was so dehydrated. I will share my tips with all of you fellow sufferers to see if it will help. 1) Stay away from dairy and acidic stuff 2) Take paracetemol for the pain, don't take any pain killer with codine in it 3) Eat ice cubes and sip Lucosade to avoid dehydration. 4) Try gargling salt water. 5) i know it sounds ridicilous. but i find putting something hot against you throat eases the pain. Tosilitis sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hate it!!!

I am just getting over tonsilitis. I am a 44 yr old married mum of 3 and have had my mum here looking after me fo 4 days because i have beem so ill! I couldn't get out of bed by myself for 3days and now on day 5 i am just begiging to feel the antibiotics kicking in. The last time i had tonsilitis was 7 yrs ago and i had it 3 times in 10 weeks. Each ime it put me in bed for 4 days.I begged the doctors to take them out then but they were reluctant to do so...i wish they had. if you have tonsilitis like I have had for years I started taking ecninicea(always spell it wrong). Although your glans still swell up you have no throat pain at all. You must use over 500 mg a day to get the real effect(but i'm no doctor)Maybe give it a try-it might work.

Oh, and Jane I know what you are going through with your wisdom teeth. My lower two wisdom teeth have been hurting for the past few months. I had my tonsils out on Oct 26. Week 1 was hell but the pain has gradually been improving. I would do it all over again, no question. The ENT said my tonsils were HUGE and growing back into my throat. He said that he looked at them after they were removed and they obviously had a chronic infection. Prior to the operation I had a sore throat with tonsil stones for 8 months along with cough, headaches, malaise, lack of appetite,etc. It was so annoying and unbearable. I took three months worth of antibiotics which did not clear up my symptoms including sore throat. I had a persitant chronic infection which was resistant to antibiotics. No, Martin Amis antibiotics DO NOT always help!!!! I am a witness to that. Do a internet search and you will soon find that people can get chronic infections like mine. Besides just living with my illness surgery was my only answer. I wish the best for everyone, I know what you are going through.

The ENT said if you have 6 infections or more a year it is recommended you get your tonsils removed. It can also affect your heart if you dont get it taken care of. He said it is really painful for adults, that there is risk of infection and bleeding and there is a possibility you might need a blood transfusion. he said i can decide to do that or wait and see if i out grow tonsillitis. hmmm...you can out grow it? i want to know how long that would take because when i heard blood transfusion and when i read of how recovery is after the operation i think i might want to out grow it. but having my tonsils drained is really scarry also.so i dont know what i should do. im considering taking multi vitamins and vit c for immune system.

I have been suffering from tonsillitis off and on for about a year now. At first I thought I was allergic to vodka or red bull energy drinks because it would seem to trigger the beginning of an infection. I have been to the doctor numerous times and have been prescribed so many different kinds of antibiotics each time I go. I also have an endless supply of 600mg ibprofen tablets that help extremly well and bring down the swelling, until you take them so often your immune to the medication or it doesnt work as well. Ive learned to be to dependent on them, it doesnt help the infection go away but helps with the pain or fever. Once I went to the ER and the ENT drained my throat, one of the most horrific experiences Ive been throu. First of all, I was awake, consious, he poked my thoat with a needle and injected out some puss, then injected me with some type of numbing medication. He than gave me a suction device and told me to hold it in my mouth to gather all the blood, puss and saliva that would result of him cutting my abcess open. It was horrible, the blood and puss draining out of the sack onto my whole mouth and tougue tasted like toxic bile and i almost threw up, but i just ended up throwing up my blood and puss all over the hospital bed.I asked him how I could ever avoid this again, he said to remove my tonsils. When that was over,I was proscribed some antibiotics and didnt have another infection till a few months later. Today I went to the ENT and he looked at my throat and advised I have a tonsillectimy

Hi All. Im on day 2 in hell, not sure if it tonsilitis or perhaps quinsy throat. I googled quinsy throat, which just sounds like severe tonsilitis......I was on the phone with my mum (being a big baby, Im 27) and she told me that when she was in her 20's, she had a few outbreaks of "quinsy throat". Anyhow, I had some penicillin around so have been taking that, and using a chloraseptic rinse to help with bacteria. Everytime I swallow, feels like Im swallowing razor blades, hurts like hell. My right tonsil is almost entirely covering my throat and has white bits on it. My left is slightly swollen but not near as bad. The milkshake idea was horrible for me, I got a strawberry milkshake from McD's (I haven't been able to eat for 2 days) and it felt like battery acid going down my throat (maybe I shoulda had chocolate). The only saving grace I have are ice cubes. Since I am dehydrated from fever and it hurts to swallow any liquid, I have found ice cubes to at least have a numbing affect as they are going down and eating them also gives me much needed water. Good luck to everyone, I feel your pain.......man this sucks!

hi im just starting to get tonsillitis! nd my throat is really hurting when i swallow now and the white spots are starting to appear this is the 4th time this year i had never had it then i got it once adn have had it loads now nd ive got a GCSE drama performance in a week and its only jsut begining! I went to the doctor and he said come back in a 3days although he said tht it does look like it hes waiting until he knows for sure it is tonsillitis before he gives me peniciliam and same as the other person he said its too early for antibiotics again. My throats really hurting already! :(:(

Hey...so my name is Alex, im 18, and just like all of you i am completely suffereing from tonsillitis. I'm pretty sure it's not strep because i don't have any white puss coating my tonsils. It is so bad though, i can't swallow without wanting to die it hurts so bad! I really needed to go to school yesterday, but i just couldn't get myself out of bed because the pain was so intense. It's so hard to swallow that i try to avoid it and
