I'm 35 and had the chicken pox a month ago, on Mother's Day. There were countless blisters on my face, scalp and torso, although the ones on my body have nearly cleared up. There are still many 'purplish' spots on my face and a few pits. I'm using Bio-oil for my face and it's healing slowly but surely. Just hope that the pits can fill up eventually. hey, i had the chicken pox when i was 4 and it seemed to last for weeks. i had used some pink stuff in order to stop the itching and everything but-it was horrible considering i got sick very often. how many times can you get chicken pox in your life time? i think i had two, but i was left with a not so long dent mark and a small one on my belly, tiny ones on my hand(they dissappeared over time) and another samll one on my chest. I got the chickenpox virus from my mom who had shingles because I never had chickenpox when I was young. Now I'm 21 years old and this is my third day of chickenpox and I'm not feeling any pain at all. My doctor gave me a medicine to stop the pain in addition to Acyclovir. hi everyone ive just got over chicken pox or not quite and im back at skool so ive probly infected every1 haha! im 16 and have exams in a coupla weeks so i couldnt miss any more skool. i scar really easy and i did scratch, so im quite worried about my skin but i take vitamin e daily now anyway and apply wheatgerm oil to the wounds which is vitamin e and zinc so both are good for skin healing and reducing scar tissue. i have that bio oil stuff for acne- but anyone who uses it- its not just vitamin e, read the packaging! ur only supposed to use it once wounds have healed- not on open sores or scabs. and whoever said they had enkaphalitis- you didnt or else you're in hospital now. when you get older (even me) you do get it a lot worse, and some of the symptoms may resemeble the various complications but most often its not, its like one in thousands who get them. if you think u have enkephalitis go to ur doctor, it doesnt just go away and i no someone who had it but not as a result of chicken pox and she lost 7 years of her memory and her brain is severely impaired. i had some symptoms of the complications myself and it was sooo bad but im just about fine now. i too had the dizziness, neck aches, head aches, swollen glands, sores in my lung lining (not in my actual lung thank goodness!) in my mouth and throat and eyes. they thought at first i may have developed pneumonia and meningits which are both complications but i didnt! anyway i love to ramble, and having been isolated 4 so long i have an excuse! my point is that if u think u have enkaphalitis or anything ur pretty stupid if u dont get it checked out. p.s. this is a suprisingly interesting site :d

It's been a week since I got chicken pox. Spots erupted all over my face on the 2nd day. Can u imagine getting this at 31 years old? Anyway, no worries. Someone recommended a cream called Declovir (it's the same as Zovirax cream). I applied the cream and didn't feel any itching at all. I hate to say this but, if you have deep pitted chicken pox scarslike i do, the truth of the matter is you are likely going to be stuck with these scars for the rest of your life.i tried all kids of home remedies and vivited with dermotologists. nothing worked for me. I am now 28 years old and have the chickenpox. I am past the itchy stage, now I am on the skin tighting and scabby stage. I am not sure which one is worse.I have had them for six days and it feels like forever. My 6 year old daughter brought them home to me from school. I'm 17 and iv had chicken pox for about 3 days now and I honestly didn't think it would be this bad. When i researched about the virus i found out that I have a rare condition of it called encephalitis. Your still ichey but in 3 minutes it stops iching ! It works like magic ! Although you still have them just keep putting this lotion on and you will be good as new well you will still have them but they wont ich as much ! I just got chicken pox and I am thirteen. I go to highschool because 7 and 8th graders are with them. I have large "ulcer like pits" on my lower neck and on the side. Hi everyone,there are no miracle overnight cures for chicken pox (as far as i'm aware), I am 25 years old and got chicken pox when I was pregnant with my first son, it was really horrible as I had to stay in doors as I was in so much pain with them, I had them all over my body, from head to toe. The only thing I found that helps is Calmoine lotion and you apply this at least twice a day and cold baths also relieve the itchiness, DO NOT be tempted to scratch them or try not to accidently scratch them or brush them off with anything as they do scar. It has now been 2 years since I had chicken pox and I have a few scars on my face from them but they are starting to look less noticable and I use Vitamin E and a product that I found at a local chemist called Bio-Oil also drinking plenty of water and eating a good diet with loads of fruit and vegetables helps.

This is the 8th day after the blister first appear. The first few days were the worst - itchy, fever, food control & incubation. I isolate myself fearing it may infect my children. It's been 6 years since i got the chicken pox and i still have the scars to prove it.My scars are not like every other chicken pox scars, they are raised and round.I dont know why i got them.I still dont understand exactly what was done wrong. I recall having to rub calming lotion all over my body and sit still for hours.And yes some of the blisters did pop but, there was no way of preventing it from poping because you had to lay down from time to time. For people currently suffering from chicken pox the best way to get rid of the scars is to not scratch the eruptions, take bath with neem water daily, apply calamine lotion and if possible apply a paste of neem on the boils.after the boils dry up and start falling apply aloe vera, rosewater and multani mitti(mudpack) on it and also vitamin e oil. keep your skin hydrated. continous application of aloe vera, turmeric, coconut water, papaya and tomato paste will slowly remove scars from at least the face within a month.Use also a good scar removal cream, eat nutritious food, avoid eating out too much. Most importantly dont worry too much. be peaceful, try meditation and b-complex tablets. AND do pray.

Hi, I also meant to write-if you can, get anti viral medication from your doctor-there is a drug, for instance called Famvir, in the U.K. and this slows or stops new 'crops' of spots appearing. I also tried oatmeal baths: tepid to lukewarm water + oatmeal wrapped in muslin, held under the running water. I also had cool baths with a handful of bicarbonate of soda. I found Calamine Lotion too drying and irritating, though I 've heard that there is a moisturising version, though did not try it Hope this helps.

I posted on this website a few months after I had chickenpox and it has now been one and a half years since I had the illness. There are still a few deep marks which annoy me a bit, but on the whole, I am not as bothered about them as I once was and see them more as changes wrought by the passing of time. Just to say also that the scary, scabby and swollen aspect of the virus does pass fairly quickly(usually)and when the redness fades, you are well on the way to looking more 'normal' again. I would say as a general rule-avoid soap!!! because it makes the skin more itchy (and it's a good idea never to use it on your face anyway as it's much too drying.)Put vitamin E on the scabs as it helps ease the crusts off and soothe the skin. I also read after my own experience, that asking your doctor for an antiseptic cream can help, as it is when the spots become infected that scarring occurs. Try not to sit brooding with a magnifying mirror and remember the ususal natural physical distance between two people conversing. People are also much more likely to notice your nice eyes, hair, smile, whatever, than a few skin flaws. I know you may not believe this just now, but you will come back to a normality! Chickenpox really is a bummer though. Watch out for post viral fatique and go easy on yourselves. Hope you all get well soon.

Hi, I am 24, I got chicken pox a week ago, it took 10 days to get better....i still have a few scars.....the crusts did fall away itself....n the scars were almost the same for the ones I touched n ones I didn't....doc told me it depends on your skin, if u are a "scarring" person, you would get scars, but if not then they would fade away....i am waiting for the ones on mny face to fade away and am positive that they will.....I did have a red spot in the middle after the crusts had fallen off and have noticed that all scars have gone much lighter after a week now..... cheers.

hi i'm 23, got chicken pox about 3 days ago (when the first rash apperance), as mentioned by others i did not touch the blisters on my face at all but i scratched one on my leg, just for comparison and see how would the lesion differs (between the scratched one on the leg and non-scratched on the face), apparently the lesions are quite similar in appearance when the unscratched ones are exposed (crusted) following the burst of the vesicles. Is antiviral medication (Acyclovir - brand name=Zovirax) gonna make me any good? Journal shows that its only effective if you start taking within 24 hours of rash appearance and also in immunocompromised individuals, is it gonna be any benefits if i start taking it now (3 days (72hours) following first rash apperance). And how long will all the blisters be fully crusted and skin back into normal apperance if i don't scratch them (i'm 23 male, asian), i realised that adult tends to have a more severe form of chicken pox as compared to kids so i thought it might take longer period than mormal. Please kindly advise.

i'm 14 and i read all these posts! quite honestly i got very depressed and went to and sat in a corner and cried. i prayed to god just asking, begging for him to get rid of these spots. I had chickenpox so bad the doctor's said it was almost small pox. That was whaen I was 9yrs. I am now 24. yopu can only imagine how bad the marks were. I had the blisters on every inch of my body including my scalp. So you could imagine my face. I used vitamin E capsules (that you burst open) for the first 3months afterwards. I got chicken pox in grade school and I am now 24. I understand how many of you feel ugly because of the scarring that occurs from them. I have a large eraser sized pox mark right between my eyes. I first got the mark lasered when i was about 13. it lessened the scar but did not get rid of it. I then had it lasered again when I was about 19. Again, it lessened the mark but it was still very apparent and left me with reddness around the pox mark. I know how some of you might think these measures are too much, but it does affect your life. I then had fat injected into the mark to push it up to make it smooth. This did absolutly nothing, if not make it worse. I have finnally descided to go in and have the scar cut out. I will be going in in 2 weeks to have this done. The plastic surgeon will cut around the scar and very carefully sew it back together. I am really nervous, but because I am so unhappy with the mark now, I will try anything. I will keep everyone updated on how it goes. if anyone is interested to see my before and after pictures let me know. I've lived quite some time with several conspicious pock marks...as well as poor skin damaged by acne...I began looking into what could be done...in Wichita, KS where I live there is a aesthetics center called Cypress Aesthetics...and currently have been going under laser treatments...what they do is use a laser intended for smoothing out skin, and concentrate it on the desired areas...very cheap compared to other things...like fifty dollars a treatment...what the laser does is burns through the scar and slowly starts rebuilding collagen below the skin...results take many treatments and up to six months...I still havn't noticed much of a difference...but it's better and cheaper than collagen fillers

I have the chicken pox! And its impossible for me to go to sleep. But I find having a HOT bath and having you room very cold is sorta helping me. What I do is a get oatmeal put it in the tub, run it so it gets hot, I stay in it for awhile, some times I sorta play with the oatmeal.... When I feel sorta sleepy I get out of the tub, put my towl on run to my cool room close to the door jump on my bed an quicky but a cool sheet on my self, Oh! scars are very difficult to get rid of because, like wrinkles, the collagen beneath the skin is bady damaged. Chemical peels and microdermabrasion help scars by peeling away at the epidermis and increasing collagen production and lasers, DERMABRASION (u missed 1), and deep peels ususally penetrate into the dermis. If your scar is pitted it will only go away if you penetrate into the dermis because of how deep the collagen damage is. You have to be careful not to try too much too soon. I recommend (especially if your scars are not truly pitted) trying the less powerful and less dangerous treatments first. If you have deeply pitted scars your only chance is Laser or Dermabrasion. Both usually cost over 1000 dollars and require nearly a year of recovery time before you will see the final results which can (usually if you are dark skinned) cause worse scarring. I recommend just leaving pitted scars, it is not fun to have you skin either sanded or burned down to the dermis! Good Luck to all of you.

You treatment options really really depend on the type of scar you have. If you have an indented pox scar, you can tell if you need surgery or not by the following method. Pull your skin a little bit and see if the scar improves, if it does you do not need surgery if it does not then you will need either dermabrasion or laser surgery to correct the scar. If you don't need surgery I advise using Microdermabrasion along with Alpha hydroxyl acids and perhaps retinol and vitamin C treatments. Rose hip oil might help also, but it can aggrivate acne. look, almost everyone has some sort of scar. Some people care about it and some dont. I do care about my scars, and I know that I won't ever be able to COMPLETELY get rid of them, but I'm just improving them little by little. what you all people with chicken pox spots can do is make a relatively thick paste (not tooo thick) of sandalwood powder and coconut oil with camphor mixed in the coconut oil. after you put the camphor in the oil make sure that you don't close the bottle for 12 hours. this lets the camphor evaporate in the oil and diffuse with the liquid. after 12 hrs, you should be able to smell camphor's strong smell instead of the coconut oil's smell. in order to make the paste mix this coconut - camphor oil with sandalwood powder make a sort of thick paste ( not too thick) and leave this on your face or scarred skin for atleast 12 hours. Guys - I identify sooo much with all of the people who are depressed and destressed over their chicken pox scars. when I fist got mine 5 years ago, my friends all said "what are you so worried about? A few holes in your face? Who cares?" Well, I care! It's embarrassing and ugly and quite honestly, no matter how nice I try to make myself look it always look like I am "moth-eaten" (you know how your clothes look if you let the mtohs and silverfish get to them over many years?) Yuck. I despise my scars. And DO NOT let ANYONE tell you that any sort of cream will fix them IT WON't and you will be WASTING YOUR MONEY. I have tried Vitamin E, Rosehip, calendula, aloe vera, elicina, facial peels, faicail BP peels, all sorts of so-called facial helpers to get "rid" of scars. NONE OF THEM WORK AND WILL ONLY MAKE YOUR WALLET LIGHTER. Save your money and wait until a doctor can offer something worthwhile to help treat the depressed scras of chicken pox. I have seen 4 plastic surgeons, all of which wanted me to invest in laser with no guarantee that it would work. HA! The truth of the matter is we are stuck with them. Looking after your skin as best you can is your only option. You will ALWAYS have the scars. Maybe in the future they will be able to find a way to reduce them for us - but we will ultimately always have the scars so please don't hedge your life on "one day i won't have these and everything will be o.k then" Live for the now - there are people with far worse issues than a few chicken pox scars to worry about (i have about 30 on my face if anyone is wondering - and yes, a lot of them are very deep and ver obvious.) You just need to learn to live with it and accept that this is the way your face is now. You may not look fantastic under certain light - but you are still you. Be happy and love yourself.

IM 20 yrs old brownish skinned type person. I have a chicken pox scar thats been annoying around my upper lip area since i was about 5. Ive tried several treatments and all you can think about, microdermabrasion did nothing for me. Nor creams such as mederma and such, they actually made my scar worse by outlining it with a whiteness. I figure the only way you can improve scars is by 3 methods. The first is plain and simple, if you got them currently you have the best chances, dont scratch and apply all the creams such as Vit E, cocoa butter, etc. The second and third are both surgical already. If youve had your scar for more than 5 years or so and it hasnt recovered there will be no other way to cue it other than surgery. For lighter skinned people laser surgery is suggested, Im not going to do it because i heard it causes your skin to lose pigment and im darker skinned so i will have bleached skin. The third option is plastic surgery to cut open the scar and close the surrounding skin over it with like 10 stitches, this is prolly the one I will choose to do because im sick of this scar already.

I am 14 now, and I caught the pox when I was 4. Even though I didn't pick the scabs-I still have chicken pox scars on my face, and I really, really hate them! they make me feel really self conscious, and I can see them on my forehead-and it looks horrible. well i'm 20 and just getting over the pox's:( it's been about 4 weeks now and i got the mostly on my face...so you can just Imagine what my face looks like...i'v been using vitamin E which seems to be working ok! but i just want you guys to know that there is medication you can take when you 1st get them(like the first day you figure out that you have the pox) and this medication will help reduce the scaring, itching and healing time! just go to the hospital and the can give you it!! i found all of this out after it was to late to take the medication ....but it helped my sister who is 18 and just had the for like a week has no scars from it! i know it can't help the people who have gotten them...but for the people who havn't REALLY GOOD INFO TO HAVE! and for the people who have them yeah there embarrassing but hey hey get over it you have them you have but if there is a way to get ride of them ....kool!! don't stress yourself out about them ... it's really not worth it!

hey I know how all of you feel..Im only 13 and had close to severe chicken pox..at least I think so (I know i am over exacturating)..im a mixed race so my scars came out brown..and I have a lot of them on my face that are very disturbing and im also very self concious..I like to go in the sun a lot and that isnt soppossed to be good for your scars but Ive seen no dissapointment..I am two months in and had to see my dermatologist..he told me they should fade but they might take longer than you would like(about a year or so)..i was bummed..but they are fading slowly but surely..i also take vitamin E ..it really helps to speed up the healing..so dont stress they should fade it takes patience good luck to all.. *aLohA*

At the first sign of the illness, see your doctor for anti viral medication which will slow or halt the eruptions of spots, if you can and as soon as possible. As for scarring I know how you feel. Vit. oil helped the scabs come off and the skin to heal, as for scarring-time and maybe dermabrasion. Laser surgery def. can help.I would like to have it-why is it so expensive? Wear cotton gloves in bed, press gently rather than scratch. Take antihistamine tabs as this helps to minimise the itching.Bathe in cool water, avoid soap like the plague-drying and itchifying. Oatmeal baths help to soothe- wrap a handful of oats in thin material like muslin and run under the cool tap. All the best to you all. My heart goes out to you all.

Im 21 years old, living with scars since early childhood. Ruined my life. I always thought i was the only one, however, i see a couple of us found our way to this message board. All these years of not wanting to be outdoors during the daytime. No one understands what u feel like, and no one deserves to go threw this. Reading posts about people that currently have the pox and are mad b/c they have a "wedding" or something to attend soon, impatient to let the scabs fall off natrually dont realize what they could be getting themselves into! If i could go back in time, id have my hands tied behind my back for 2 months, just so its impossible for me to scratch! I have about 6 scars on my face, 2 or 3 of wich a pretty deep and slightly red. When i was 17 i had a surrgery that involved injecting some kind of agent that rasies the skin in needed areas. Was excited at the time, but ofcourse.. didn't work. I live my life looking in the mirror, hopping for a miracle. 21 years old now and laser resurfacing is the last hope that keeps me going. Willing to spend whatever it takes, but if anybody knows the going rate of these laser surgeries i am extremely curious. Hi yall, im 18 now and i had chicken pox when i was 10. Yeah like alot of yall, i couldnt resist tha itch. I scratched them and they left a few scars on my face. Well its been 8 years dealing with these scars. Its ok yall its not that bad really. At first i was depressed and didnt want to go anywhere. Hello, I am 27 years old and have had chicken pox scars since age 2. I have about 20 on my face and more in other areas of my body. Some of my scars are pitted, and some are raised. When I was 14, I had treatment that involved cutting and stitching the skin together to minimize the scars. This did not work. When I was 22, I had laser surgery on my face. The healing took about a year, but they are much less noticeable now; however, if you are looking for your scars to disappear, I'm sorry, they probably never will. Laser surgery is the only thing I've found that will at least minimize them. It was a very painful process, but I am very glad that I did it. I can now look at my face and see other features, not just scars.

Whats up.I had a large depressed chicken pox scar on my face that really hurt my self esteem and confidence to a point where it was just unbearable i feal it was the worst thing that has happened in my life. Then 6 months ago i went to a plastic surgeon to check it out. He said he could do somthing and i was very excited. The procedure cost a total of $500 and took 30 min i went in was injected with a local anestetic and 10 stitches were applied. I went back 6 days later and he took them out. He told me to wear this small patch over the scar for 3 months while it heals. Its 2 months later and its looking really good its healing great. I think after a year in total like he said that it will fade and be pretty much invisable. If you feal really bad about your scar do yourself a favor and go to a plastic surgon. Before this surgeroy i was always hiding one side of my face because i constantantly thought about the scar. I would make an appointment right away. I can tell you it was the best $500 bucks i have ever spent i could have paid 10 grand for the surgery and i still would have been happy.

I am from medical line. I got chicken pox a month back. Till now my skin was smooth and face was very good looking. I am 29 years old, I first got chicken pox when I was 2 yrs. old. All my life kids called me names because of my scars. I hated it. From a far I look good, but when you get up close. YIKES! That's the reaction I get. I think the best way to get rid of them is to have laser skin resurfacing. I had my first procedure a few months and it looks great! You can't see them anymore. I have saved up for several months. If you can not afford it, I would suggest getting a loan.When you get the pox scars they will be there for life, until you go to a plastic surgeon to have them professionally removed.
