There are many types of breathing exercises which you can practice regularly to stay healthy and fit. There are lots of benefits of practicing breathing exercise daily. Read on to find the different types of breathing exercises and benefits of practicing breathing exercises.

Breathing exercises help release tension and get rid of many health problems. Also, you should be aware of your breathing and avoid wrong way of breathing to stay away from various health ailments. Although it is very easy to learn breathing techniques it takes months to practice and realize the actually benefits of breathing properly. There are many types of breathing exercises and they have their specific benefits on mind, body and soul as well.

Most of the breathing exercises are known as Pranayamas and you should be aware of the benefits before you start practicing them. The right way of performing Pranayama is very important to get the utmost benefits of them.

Types of Pranayamas or Breathing Exercises

  1. Bhastrika Pranayama or deep and slow breathing exercise
  2. Anulom Vilom Pranayama or alternate nostril breathing exercise
  3. Sitali Pranayama or cooling breath
  4. Ujjayi Pranayama or ocean breath
  5. Kapalabhati Pranayama
  6. Bhramari Pranayama or breathing with humming sound

Breathing exercises become important, as you grow older so that the lungs are provided with the level of oxygen it requires. You should practice breathing exercises at least once daily and so that stale air in lungs gets cleaned up. You do not have to spend lot of time for this. Only if you give 5 to 10 minutes to essential Pranayamas, it will help you remain healthy for longer period of time.

Most of these breathing exercises can be done when you get up in the morning or before you retire into your bed. This will certainly give you a good night’s sleep. Lie horizontal and take deep breath as you prepare to go to sleep. If required, place small pillows under your knees and neck. This will keep your spine straight. Put your hands on your belly and start deep and slow breathing.

Helps to Get Rid of Stress

In the morning, you can do humming exercises, which means as you exhale make humming sound. This will calm down your stressed mind and body. Bhastrika Pranayama is deep breathing and if done slowly and fully for at least 5 minutes daily, helps in keeping stale air away from your lungs.

Kapalabhati pranayama has manifold benefits and it makes your body fit and healthy if practiced regularly. Along with physical benefits you get mental and emotional benefits also. You are able to think maturely and in a positive manner as well. Your concentration and work efficiency is improved whether you are a student or a working person. You can get the utmost benefits of breathing exercises or Pranayamas only when you learn and practice them in the right way. For this it is better to attend some class or learn them from a yoga guru.
