An Interview with Sandip Soparrkar

Mr. Sandip Soparrkar is the first single male adoptive parent in India. This article is an exclusive interview of Mr.Sandip Soparrkar on adoption with IndiaParenting.com. Have a quick look at what he feels about adoption, his suggestions to adoptive parents and more.

According to you what is ‘Adoption’?

‘Adoption’ is nothing but a feeling. According to me adoption is a feeling of love towards someone whom you do not know. ‘Adoption’ is just a name given to this feeling by the society.

Why did you decide to have an adopted child?

I always wanted to have an adopted child and I decided to adopt at the age of 20. When I became financially stable and could prepare my self emotionally to adopt a child, I took my decision ahead.

What was the reaction of your family and friends when you adopted a child?

All the family members, including my grandparents were very happy with my decision to adopt a child. They were very supportive throughout my adoption journey. Even my friends supported me a lot in my decision. My friends and family members believed in what I believe and think about adoption. Also there are lot of people in my friends circle and in family who have adopted a child

Would you consider adoption again?

Yes definitely, I would like to consider adoption again. I wish, I could adopt all children, but it is not possible. Adoption is a beautiful thing.

What would you like to suggest to the parents who are considering adoption?

Adoption is a wonderful thing which an individual can do. So if anyone is thinking of adopting a child, he or she should do it immediately. When thought of adoption comes to mind, the person should immediately involve himself in the process without giving a second thought.

What tips would you like to give to adoptive parents?

I think every child is unique and all I want to tell adoptive parents is that they should give lots of love to their children. Parents should care for the child the way they want. There is no description for love and care which parents can give their children.

What are the pain points which you faced during your adoption journey?

There are lot of legalities and formalities involved in the entire adoption process. The most difficult phase which I faced as an adoptive parent is the cross questioning from people. Lots of questions were asked unnecessarily. Therefore, parents need to prepare themselves mentally for their adoption journey.

How can IndiaParenting.com make its adoption support network better?

IndiaParenting.com has got lot of information. I have visited IndiaParenting.com and it has done a very good job on adoption. I wish IndiaParenting.com all the best and keep up the good work!

Hello! Sundeep! how r u? U know me. Sabika Khan introduced us last year in the month of feb when she was making a documentary on single fathers in this country. Me too being a proud single father of a seven years old adopted son know v both are in the same boat. Me too do agree that here in India adoption is an herculean task for a single male. He has to face not only hostile attitude of the Adoption agencies but also queer behavior of the society where people think this guy might not have been able to produce his biological children that's y he has gone for adoption. But for single mothers society has a quite soft attitude. They are not branded as lesbians or barren but with male it is asked whether he I gay.
whatever sexual perversion is coming out in newspapers is all due to a stereotyped mind set of the society towards men. A sense is inculcated in the boys they have to rule the women on bed, have to drink, donn have to cry, should have a lots of girl friend . then and only then they will be'man'

We are planning to adopt a baby at the earliest. We are financially well settled couple desperately waiting to adopt a baby.
